What does Puss in Boots have to do with sustainable production and maintenance? - Expo Smart Marktplatz

Maintenance is a pure cost driver

That's true if you don't prepare yourself for the future and don't bring maintenance into the executive chair!

The modern production landscape is facing a multitude of challenges. Demographic change, de-fossilization, digitalization/AI and de-coupling are just some of the current issues that force companies to continuously question and adapt their strategies.

In this blog post, we look at the future of production and maintenance and show how important it is to be future-proof. A particular focus is on the often underestimated role of maintenance, minimizing administrative waste, the complexity of plant technology and the importance of production partnerships.

Current framework conditions and production factors

A look at the production factors of labor, capital and land shows that there are only a few variables that we can really change in Germany.
The framework conditions are particularly problematic in the area of human resources: 30% of the workforce will soon retire and there are simply not enough successors , especially in the operational area.
Our education system is also causing us to lose a lot of STEM and methodological skills in the area of intellectual work . Facilities must be used efficiently and optimally because investments are expensive. Germany is built, energy costs are high, and minerals and natural resources are scarce. We therefore need to find clever solutions to remain successful under the current conditions. The service economy and social hammock will quickly push us out of third place in the world's economies by GDP. Anyone who sees this differently should save the time of reading on and sit back again!

The role of maintenance

Unfortunately, maintenance still plays a minor role in many companies. If you ask your friends and acquaintances who knows the maintenance manager of a large company within a 20-kilometer radius, very few will have an answer. But some will certainly know the CEOs, CFOs and HR and purchasing colleagues. This shows the importance of maintenance in society today - and that is exactly what we need to change. The "craftsmen" in the perception must become experts and plant heroes! Maintenance must be moved from the kids' table to the boss's chair in order to make production future-proof, available, sustainable and efficient.
